Ulla Johnson was born and raised in Manhattan, the daughter of archaeologists whose global travels deeply shaped her aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from both the vibrant streets of New York and the far-flung corners of the world, she developed a design language rooted in cultural richness, craftsmanship, and femininity.
She launched her namesake label in 1998, shortly after graduating from university, and quickly garnered attention from the fashion press. With early support from Barneys New York and a presence in select directional boutiques, her collection steadily grew into a globally recognized brand. Today, Ulla Johnson is stocked by leading retailers across the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia — embraced for its attention to detail, use of natural fibers, and effortless, sculptural silhouettes.
Ulla remains deeply involved in every part of the design process, committed to artisanal techniques and thoughtful construction. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their three children.
